Despite the experts believe that the consumption of milk products can protect a person from obesity and a number of other health problems that accompany the condition are overweight, in fact there are no the expert who can explain the mechanism.

As part of a collaborative research project between the University of Illinois and the Universidad Autónoma de San Luis Potosί, Mexico, in this study included 339 adolescents who were taking an entrance exam to a number of universities from Mexico who asked to fill out a questionnaire about the frequency of eating.

Then each respondent evaluated risk factors for metabolic syndrome. After it, then the researchers analyzed data obtained with considering the age factor, sex, history of cardiovascular disease and type 2 diabetes in the family as well as the physical activity levels of the respondents.

Not only it, researchers also monitor changes in BMI, body weight and eating habits as well as the sports respondent from time to time.

From it, initially the researchers suspected that respondents tend to replace high-calorie drinks and artificial sweeteners such as soda and canned juices with milk, but apparently it did not happen. In fact, a quarter of respondents precisely consume the drink it besides also drinking milk so that her calorie into a surplus.

For it, Teran-Garcia stressed the importance of accustom a children for consumption of healthy foods since early, and he sees this study as one of intervention that can change the mindset of the respondents.

"We care about them because people in this age group rarely visit to the doctor and it could be that they not know anything if they have problems with their weight, her blood pressure, lipid levels and blood sugar levels," he continued.

Moreover for targeting the young respondents as in this study is considered as one of approach that cheap-rousing to encourage the importance of maintaining health and decrease the risk of any disease in the future. "With so in some years to come, when our respondents have become parents, they will be able to be a good role model for her children," he concluded.
