Energy drinks can reportedly boost stamina and spirit activity. Initially this drink widely consumed by men who need a lot of energy to work. Later, the school children had come to drink. How is the effect?
Hoping to get similar effect, school students bandwagon drinking energy drinks to boost stamina in school. However, a study found that energy drinks have no effect whatsoever on the cognitive abilities of students in the school.
"Our research shows that in terms of the ability of the school, there is no reason to suggest the benefits of an energy drink for young children to justify the risks that can be inflicted," said the researcher, Pascal Wilhelm of the University of Twente as reported Counsel and Heal, Tuesday (15 / 1/2013).
In his research, Dr. Wilhelm observed and analyzed 103 students a secondary school in the province of Overijssel, Netherlands. Researchers gave a glass of energy drink, fruit squash or water to 3 groups of fourth-year students.
The researchers added flavorings to disguise the taste of energy drinks with squash. The students were then asked to undergo a number of written test to assess the ability observation, concentration, learning, memory, verbal reasoning, numerical and vocabulary.
The findings suggest that children who drink energy drinks turned out no better ability than other children. Even the caffeine content in energy drinks can make a child be a headache and insomnia.
In a research report published journal Tijdschrift voor Psychiatrie, researchers considered that the frequent consumption of energy drinks can increase the risk of drug use. Therefore, the researchers suggested for students who want to get energy intake to look for caffeine intake from coffee only.
