Fake robotic hand has changed the life of a child 5 years of South African origin, Liam, who since birth has no fingers on her right hand. But do not be mistaken for a robot hand it is very sophisticated and expensive, since it is only made of a 3-D printer.
Robotic hand is made Ivan Owen, working part-time mechanic in Washington. In the process, Owen was not alone. He collaborated with Rich Van As, a wealthy artisans from South Africa who lost four her fingers because an accident.
The men it decided to make 'robohand' for Liam. The hand was supported by wires and bungee, while the hinge between the fingers and the wrist is made using a 3-D printer.
With the new hand, now Liam can throw a basketball, pushing a shopping cart, even taking coins with her fake hand.
After seeing how well their discovery that works for Liam, Owen said their dream is to form a nonprofit to educate the public on how to create and assemble robohand.
"We want to provide the materials, parts and knowledge, and then someone in the community can help them with the assembly and fitting," said Owen to ABC News, as quoted on Sunday (02/10/2013).
