If problem mindset, brain athletes more accurate than a college students

Athletes are better known by his physical strength that exceeds the average common man. But not many would have thought if the athlete also has a brilliant mind. In fact, according to a new study brainpower better athlete than college student brain.

This study reported that the brains of athletes have visual perception and cognitive abilities are better than college students who are not athletes on campus, especially in the study or to track objects moving at high speed.

"That is clear that the ability to process and learn something (learning skills) that is key to the excellent performance of professional athletes. Nevertheless, not unclear whether the superior learning ability are characteristics unique to a professional athlete, a congenital or acquired their capabilities through training extensive, "said Jocelyn Faubert researchers from the University of Montreal School of Optometry.

The conclusion was obtained after the researchers recruited 102 professional athletes from the English Premier League (soccer), the National Hockey League (hockey) and France's Top 14 (rugby), including 173 amateur athletes. 33 student non-athletes also were included in this study.

Then all these participants were asked to undergo a test procedure called '3 D-MOT ' much as 15 times. In this procedure, participants are shown a number of colored balls that appear floating in a 3D space. Then suddenly there are 4 balls in different colors from the other balls appeared and flashed quickly, but after that blend in more with the other balls for 8 seconds.

Participants were asked to continue to pay attention and keep track of the four balls that have changed color when mixed and identify which of the four ball movement is after all the balls stopped. If the participant made a mistake when identifying the ball-the ball will move slowly but otherwise if participants can answer accurately the speed of movement of the balls will be added.

Of tests, researchers can ensure that athletes have better test scores than college students.

"Although the context is not related to any kind of sports, we find that professional athletes are able to process visual scene is much better than amateur athletes, although they still can 'beat' college student," said Faubert as quoted from huffingtonpost, Tuesday (05/02/2013 ).

The study has been published in the journal Scientific Reports.
